Hospital, we need to talk
When I learned that some people with my condition are able to keep their immune systems in balance by following an antiflammatory dietary regime (fresh produce, no processed foods, low sodium, complex carbohydrates only, fish oil supplements, stanky turmeric tea instead of coffee), I've been pretty serious about eating that way. (Right? I have trouble believing it myself. . .)
So I'm sure my newfound knowledge about eating this way is part of my reaction to the food I've had here so far. Even if I weren’t vegetarian, I’d still be somewhat horrified that the nutritional aspects of medicine don’t seem to be embraced by the medical world. Not to preach, but high-salt, high-glycemic, high-fat fare isn't good for anybody — let alone people who are sick and trying to get healthy.
Update: Breakfast this morning was better!
